This past Sunday I felt tired so I skipped Church and had my morning coffee in front
of the TV watching the CBS Morning Show where the lead story was about America's
so-called "New Normal."

What was reported was that our economy that's been in the crapper since we squandered
our blood and fortune on foreign soil instead of investing it at home, has not rebounded
as the press has reported lately.

CBS interviewed leading economists who all agreed that for the first time in
American history a recession will not bounce back but will leave us having to
learn to settle for less. They agreed that:

There will be no rebound in employment.
There will be no rebound in housing.
There will be no rebound in construction.
There will be no rebound in incomes.
There will be no rebound in school budgets (teachers will still have to spend their salaries on paper and pencils).
What there will be is an indefinite continuance of difficult choices, like between food or medicine.

That old saying sort of gets under the skin, doesn't it? "If you do what you've always done, you'll get what you've always gotten." Seems so darn obvious and irrefutable and all.

The point of even mentioning it is to suggest that if you want some of the things in your life to be different, things like your income, what you do to generate that income, how much time you need to spend to generate that income, little things like that, then you need to take the plunge and get involved in something beyond your regular workday schedule.

Millions of us today are out of work. 100% out of work. As in "no job at all." Millions more of us are very much afraid that if things don't improve with this crippled economy, they will be moving from the second group (still have a job) into the first group (no job). Naturally, one of the biggest worry factors in that second group is that its members have no control whatsoever over when that decision might be made, who might make it, and how it might be communicated that the decision has been made. That can have a real downer kind of effect when you see some of the handwriting on the wall and realize a decision could soon be coming that will be a very negative one in your life.

The first thing to try to get your arms around in this situation is some big-picture perspective. It helps me sometimes to realize that a short time from now, say a couple hundred years or so, none of what we all are going through will be even a tiny blip on the radar screen. If you know you are saved and headed for an eternal life that is going to be more wonderful than you can possibly imagine, then everything in the here-and-now seems pretty pale by comparison. So, while you're grappling with that big-picture stuff, you can perhaps feel a little better in trying to resolve the little-picture stuff like making a living.

Another thing we can say very truthfully today is that there has never been a time when it's easier to make money from the comfort of home. Never.

One of the best ways to do that is what is being called the Billionaire Matrix (BMX). This is a matrix that is ten people wide at the first level, and ten levels deep. Matrix levels always are multiples of the level above...this just means that the second matrix level here is ten times larger than the first level, or 100 people. How's the economy treating you? Still keeping your head above water?

Still have a job to go to each day? According to the US government, we currently have 14.6 million people out of work who would like to be IN work, creating an unemployment rate here of 9.5%. Depending on whom you believe, however, some people insist the US unemployment rate is well above 10% when ALL the people who want jobs are factored in. In parts of Europe the jobless rate is at 20% or better.

The problem, on a personal level, is that it takes losing only ONE job to make the jobless rate for YOU a very difficult 100%. There's no fudging in those figures, is there?

This is why we continually advise folks to have something to fall back on. There is nothing in this current economy that could even remotely be called "job security." That concept has gone the way of the dinosaur. Your employer, in other words, can ALWAYS be counted upon to do what is best for him, for her, or for the corporation. Hoping your company will somehow see the light and do what is best for you in any given situation is like living in a cave and hoping someone will come along who has a match to light your one remaining candle.

In our current economic situation, we have a government which many are now saying is on a fast ride down the hill toward default (otherwise called bankruptcy). If default is somehow prevented, we still have the very strong possibility of rampant inflation caused by the massive influx of cash into the economy over the past couple of years. ("Influx" is the polite term for "bailout.") No matter which way you slice it, the future looks pretty dicey. Sorry for the confusion in metaphors there.

Our advice is always to have something "going for you" besides the job you go to each day. Thankfully, with the Internet today, there are some very good things to get going for you beyond the usual savings account that is nearly impossible to maintain, the 401K that is being hammered relentlessly by the stock market, or the part-time job you probably don't have any more.

When it's time to get serious about making some extra money, and in this case doing it on the Internet, what do you look for?

Do you look to see what everyone else is doing, and join that?

Do you find something that fits right in with your abilities, training, and interests, and get involved in that?

Do you try to find something that will start generating income as rapidly as possible...especially in this economy?

I would not recommend the first suggestion above. If you join something that lots of people are already involved in, you are going to find some fierce competition for new prospects. Back when the Internet was young, there were a few times when something came along that was so hot and attracted so much attention that you could probably have jumped on board successfully and ridden the wave, too.

Today it's almost impossible to create that kind of wave. People online today have been beaten up and scammed and deceived, or know someone who has, so that the general level of skepticism is extremely high. Today there are lots of websites that exist only to find and expose the scams, or perceived scams.

How about the next two criteria above? Do you want to focus on your own particular interests, training, and abilities, or be an adventurer and explore beyond those attributes? And how quickly do you need to see some money coming in?

I'm asking these questions, first, because they NEED to be asked. They're important questions. But secondly, I want to suggest something to you that should give you a substantial level of comfort, particularly on questions 2 and 3.

What this means is that you have three people on your first level, nine on your second, 27 on your third, and so on. Each level all the way down to the tenth is three times as big as the previous level. How to make it through the recession without losing your cool...

Seems like we all need two things to make it through this recession we're in. The first of those can be classified under "peace of mind" or "mental toughness" or "personal fortitude"... maybe you have another phrase that seems appropriate.

The question always is, how do we find that peace of mind or fortitude?

There's an expression we've all probably heard by now that says "Whatever doesn't kill me will just make me stronger." That would lead us to believe that it's primarily experience that gives us toughness and, hopefully, peace of mind along with it.

Seems to me that this approach to those attributes is taking the hard path rather than an easier one. Peace of mind for me is knowing that my future is secure. If I know beyond all reasonable doubt that this earthly life is not all there is, is temporary, then I can safely put my future in the One who has secured it.

I can hear someone saying "There he goes again, off on that Christianity thing."

Sorry...but I simply cannot help ending up there, all the time, in almost all facets of life. The only other alternative outside of a future-securing God is to live like this earthly life is all there is. To live like there is no God. If that's true, then what would motivate me to get up each morning? To go to work, maybe to a job I dislike intensely, knowing that when I'm ready to shuffle off this mortal coil I was reliable and performed well for the folks who signed my paycheck? I mean, think about it: If this earthly life is final and complete and there is absolutely nothing beyond the grave for us, what keeps us from going out and taking what we want rather than trying to earn it with daily toil? I would suggest that what keeps most of us from choosing the path of anarchy and chaos is something within us put there by the Creator. There are laws, there is a conscience, because there is a "conscience-planter" who created us, our cells, and the DNA in those cells. We can address this topic in more depth at another time.

The other thing we need to get us through this recession is more temporal and practical: We need more financial resources. Unless you plan to go off into the wilderness and become self-sufficient, you need cash to exchange for the stuff that keeps your life going.

How do YOU think the world will look in another thirty or forty years?

TODAY'S UNCOMMON INSIGHT: Looks like the main exercise a lot of us are getting these days is jumping to conclusions, wrestling with the truth, and bending over backwards to avoid confrontation. (Unknown)

To a lot of people, many of them living in "America The Beautiful" and many more living in other countries, America doesn't look nearly as beautiful today as it used to.

If you were to ask the people living in coastal areas on the Gulf of Mexico, they would have a lot to tell you about how ugly the Gulf now looks, and how it could be a very long time until that ugliness goes away. The Gulf spill is magnitudes larger than the Alaska spill of ten or twelve years ago, and the oil there -- and the damage it did -- is still visible.

The US has been fighting now in Iraq for more years than it fought in Vietnam...and we have extended US combat on a large scale into Afghanistan at the same time. We are in a very deep economic recession that will probably be felt for some years to come, according to many economists. We're printing money as fast as the presses will run, and borrowing just as fast as we can from any source we can tap. Problem is, we're running out of tappable sources, and so are many other countries.

If you've ever done some serious thinking about where this world is headed, about how the US will fit into the global scheme of things in coming decades, I suspect that you have reasons to feel unsettled about all that. (I am doing my best to put that delicately. Personally, I feel VERY unsettled about that.) Is there anything that could happen to change the position of the US in the world from what it is now to something far different, far less reassuring? Absolutely, there is. (That's a good subject for another day.)

As far as I am concerned personally, I adhere to a Biblical worldview. I have read the Bible thoroughly from Genesis to Maps, and the more I read it, the surer I become that the Bible is what is claims to be, the inspired Word of God. Certainly no one who has ever tried to refute the Bible has ever had any success; in fact the more time passes, the more we find from archeological studies, for example, that the Bible is true beyond refutation.

If that is the case, then the Bible must be what it claims. In addition, a very large percentage of the Bible was prophecy when it was written, and the majority of those prophecies have come true. Obviously, we can expect the remaining Bible prophecies to be fulfilled in future days. There is absolutely no reason to expect otherwise.

So...let's think about this with a Biblical perspective.

If the Bible is true, then Jesus was who He said He was...the Son of God. History is already a very clear witness to the truth of the crucifixion and resurrection, history that is not in the Bible but in secular writings. And there are so many good ancient copies of the New Testament still in existence, thousands of them, that any reputable scholar will agree to the truth of what they say.

We do not have the time or space here today to do more than suggest that you start your own research, if you are so inclined, by visiting this website. Look for some of the links we provide to other good sources. The main point I am trying to make here is that if the Bible is true, then the Book of Revelation is also true. And according to that last book of the Bible, things in this world are going to get pretty ugly as history wraps up.

Once you become convinced of that, the only thing left to do is prepare yourself for the events you see coming...the events the Bible tells you are SURE to come.

There is some really wonderful news in all of this: Eternity is real, too, and as long as you're going to spend eternity in the non-smoking section, you have nothing to worry about. Your eternity is secure and will be a joyful one. (But according to Revelation and all those other Biblical books, you will NOT want to visit the smoking section, not for an eternity or even for a minute.)
